These studies are intended to answer how modern society is shaped by drawing on past experiences, while also exploring questions crucial to the social, cultural, political, and anthropological development of humanity. By recognizing and understanding the future, there is a greater likelihood that everyone will find and define their place in significant civilizational and historical events, which already shape everyday life. Future Studies aim to stimulate interest and debate on the most significant directions of the third decade of the 21st century and provide students with insights into the key questions that humanity will face in the future. In addition to acquiring diverse knowledge, Future Studies also aim to equip participants with practical skills essential for both professional and personal development. The skills gained through Future Studies help students take their first steps into the job market, transitioning from the world of education to the world of work.
Educational programs for selected students at the Belgrade Open School until 2015 were implemented through the Department for Advanced Undergraduate Studies (DAUS). The formation of the Department for Advanced Undergraduate Studies, as well as its development, parallels the formation and development of the Belgrade Open School itself. The Belgrade Open School was established in November 1993 as an educational program of Credibel Bank aimed at the most talented students of economics and psychology. It changed its name to Belgrade Open School in 1996. From October 1996 to June 1998, the Main Program was organized for the best students. From October 1998 to June 2000, two one-year programs ran concurrently: the Main Program and the Open Program. From October 2000 to June 2007, two programs were organized: the Main Program and the European Union and Balkans Program. The Main Program consisted of multidisciplinary modules in social and human sciences, skills modules, and a tutoring program, while the European Union and Balkans Program focused on analyzing and interpreting legal, political, economic, and cultural aspects of European integration. This type of program did not exist in the formal education system of Serbia at that time. The one-year academic program of Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Studies was organized from October 2007 to June 2012. It was designed for selected senior students who wanted to expand their knowledge in civic culture, civil society values, European integration, and acquire skills useful for their future professional work. The Future Studies program began in the academic year 2012/2013 and aims to familiarize students with the main global trends and challenges facing the modern world, while also providing them with skills important for professional and personal development.
The goal of the Future Studies program is to annually provide outstanding students with opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills crucial for their further professional and personal development. This comprehensive objective is achieved through several sub-goals reflected in various components of the program. The program is intended for students in their third and fourth year of undergraduate studies, as well as master's studies, from all faculties in Serbia, who enroll in the program by the age of 27. Students of Future Studies are those who want to discover and learn more, those who aim to improve themselves and the world around them.
