"Green Generation: Schools involved in climate action" is part of the multi-year regional initiative "Sunny Schools in the Western Balkans" implemented by the Foundation for an Open Society of the Western Balkans. The regional initiative involves the installation of solar panels in selected schools in the territory of North Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo*, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania, research on the green transition at the level of the countries involved, and an educational component that includes work with elementary school students in the field of environmental protection, fair energy transition, sustainable development, green skills, and education.
The educational component of the initiative called "Green Generation: Schools Involved in Climate Action" is implemented by the Belgrade Open School (Serbia), the National Youth Council of Macedonia (North Macedonia), Bonevet (Kosovo*), and the Center for Ecology and Energy (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Youth Roma and Egyptian Movement (Albania), supported by the Foundation for Open Society of the Western Balkans.
The educational component aims to contribute to informing teachers, parents, and students in schools about the importance of climate justice, participation in energy policy and democratization; to contribute to the self-sustainability of schools through the improvement of fundraising and advocacy capacities and to provide mentoring support to schools for active participation in decision-making processes at the local level.
Through this regional initiative, 70 schools in the territory of the Western Balkans were supported, and in Serbia, project activities were implemented in the territory of Kragujevac, in six elementary schools:

Promotional campaign to inform the general public and present the key results of the initiative;Educational workshops for primary school students in the field of environmental protection, fair energy transition and sustainable development;Training to strengthen the capacity of schools, which included empowering schools to get involved in projects, to expand cooperation on their initiative, and to be active not only in project teaching but also in national and regional projects, which is intended for school principals and teachers;
The project will be implemented from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025.
