The Green Chair represents a network of over 60 non-governmental organizations dealing with the issue of environmental protection. It was founded in 2013 with the idea of permanent participation of representatives of the civil sector in the sessions of the Environmental Protection Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
The mission of the Green Chair is to improve communication with the legislative branch of government through an established mechanism, the only one of its kind, and to influence the improvement of legislative proposals in the field of the environment. This unique mechanism enables the continuous and coordinated participation of civil society representatives in the work of the Committee and is one of the most important mechanisms for involving citizens in the work of parliamentary committees used in the National Assembly.
Representatives of the Green Chair have the opportunity to participate in the debate during the session, give comments on the topics on the agenda, as well as proposals for the improvement of legal and by-law solutions presented at the session. The basic idea and intention of working through this mechanism is to provide MPs, members of the Committee with professional expertise and insight from the civil sector, as well as from the local.
