ReEnergy 2012 - for energy-sustainable communities Project examined the current state of efficient use of natural resources in Serbia and the possibilities for developing an active and appropriate response from local communities, based on the experience and practice of the Mayor's Pact.ReEnergy is the initiative of the Center for European Integration of the Belgrade Open School, aimed at improving the practical and political framework for creating an energy and environmental policy in the Republic of Serbia. The initiative was based on the belief that a responsible and open environment policy must be based on public participation in decision-making and partnership between civil society, the business sector and public institutions. By achieving these preconditions we come to the successful implementation of European norms and standards in the field of environmental conservation and improvement and sustainable use of natural resources. We do not see energy policy as a separate area, but a responsible and sustainable energy policy is the basis for good environmental management. In the focus of the ReInergy initiative, there are local communities and citizens' interests at the local level, where practical policy is really implemented and where the results of this policy should be obvious.
The long-term goals of the ReInergy initiative were:
- Creating public policies with full involvement of citizens at an early stage of decision-making, in the process of defining problems and choosing the most favorable options;
- clean energy - energy production with low CO2 emissions
- Reliable and quality energy supply that does not threaten the environment and human health
- Creation of local development policies in accordance with the specificities and needs of local communities.
The ReEnergy Initiative was implemented with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
ReEnergy 2012 - for energy-sustainable communities Project examined the current state of efficient use of natural resources in Serbia and the possibilities for developing an active and appropriate response from local communities, based on the experience and practice of the Mayor's Pact. Through interactive training, online training, analysis and development of practical and political solutions for energy policy at the local level and study trip, the project provided the opportunity for all stakeholders involved in energy issues at the local level (representatives of local self-government, civil society organizations and the media) to :
- get acquainted with the EU policy framework for the efficient use of resources;
- develop a practical and political framework for energy management at the local level, using the Sustainable Energy Action Plan developed by the Mayor's Pact;
- to become acquainted with the obligations arising from the EU accession process and the implications for the energy sector in Serbia.
The project activities included one-day intensive training in Belgrade (July 4, 2012), work on the educational platform, analysis and development of practical and political solutions for energy policy at the local level, a study visit to Graz (3- 5 October 2012), as well as discussion forum - presentation of project results and three practical-political analyzes.
The initiative is being implemented with the support of Friedrich Ebert's Office in Belgrade.
The project was implemented in the period from June to November 2012.
