The project has critically dealt with the examination of the current state of energy efficiency policy in Serbia. Through three regional consultative workshops and final conferences, the project has made recommendations for improving the existing practical and political framework in Serbia, with a particular focus on the impact of this policy on the environment, economic growth and employment at the local level.
Regional consulting workshops and a final conference have been held within the project.
Consultative workshops have been organized in three cities – Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis. All workshops have been regional, meaning that representatives of regional authorities, neighboring local authorities, the business sector and civil society organizations active in the region have been invited.
At the closing conference, entitled "In Meeting Higher Energy Efficiency in Serbia", the participants (representatives of key stakeholders: representatives of central and regional authorities, local associations, chambers of commerce, civil society organizations) have talked about developments in the field of politics and regulation in areas of energy efficiency and have discussed main obstacles in creating a sustainable energy efficiency policy in Serbia.
The conference has had several objectives:
- Raising awareness of decision makers on the possibilities and benefits of wider use of renewable energy sources, achieving greater energy efficiency and encouraging their commitment to promoting renewable energy sources and energy efficiency;
- Encouraging dialogue on what political, economic and legal frameworks would most contribute to the successful promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, as well as to greater investments from the state and private sectors;
- Making contributions to a wider dissemination of information on these topics in the society in Serbia.
