The overall goal of the project was the development of a sustainable and efficient waste management policy in Serbia, which is in line with the modern EU standards in this specific policy area. The specific objectives of the project were: to bridge the information gap; to learn how to overcome obstacles in the implementation of waste management laws; and to raise awareness of the importance of proper waste management.
The project has been implemented through 4 project activities:
- Interviewing local stakeholders on waste management policies;
- A study visit to EU institutions dealing with waste management policy;
- A study visit to Slovakia (Bratislava) and their stakeholders dealing with waste management policy;
- Writing and disseminating a concise policy paper on the topic of waste management policy in Serbia.
The summarized policy paper entitled "Zero Waste - An Example of Good Practice in Slovakia" has been proclaimed as one of the two best papers. The policy paper can be downloaded HERE.
The project has been implemented in Belgrade, Bratislava, and Brussels in the period from November 2010 to March 2011.
The project was financially supported by the Pontis Foundation from Slovakia and the Center for Democracy Foundation.
