“Aarhupedia - Access to the Justice System in the Area of Environmental Protection through a Free Legal Aid Program” project has served to establish a public and free legal counseling service for citizens and civil society organizations in the field of access to information of public importance, public participation in decision-making processes and access to justice in the field of environmental protection.
The Aarhupedia project has contributed to the development of a sustainable legal and social framework for the implementation of the principles and provisions contained in the Aarhus Convention.
Through the Aarhupedia platform, a publicly available free platform has been established to provide relevant information and knowledge to civil society stakeholders within the existing legal framework in the field of environment.
The project team has worked in cooperation with the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) in order to ensure the participation of local self-governments in project activities. The SCTM Environmental Protection Committee has regularly been informed about the development of the project. The Green Councils, the advisory bodies established in six municipalities in Serbia, have also been supported through activities on the "Aarhupedia" project. Ministries in charge of environment, energy, and justice have been included through a program of support for cooperation between public institutions and citizens. The project has also helped the media showing interest in the topic, but the lack of concrete knowledge about the processes of implementation of the Aarhus Convention has clearly been noticed.
The project was implemented in the period from June to December 2014 and was supported by the mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in the Republic of Serbia.
